Creating Nina Gail Bears Bears and Rabbits can be interpreted in so many ways that the possibilities are endless. I began making full size bears but longed for more freedom in my creative process, making miniatures fulfilled that craving for freedom. My miniatures are totally designed and hand stitched by me. I love working without a set pattern and I also adore the fact that no two of my creations will ever be exactly alike. I strive to make each animal unique both physically and spiritually, letting his or her distinctive personality shine through. My miniature mohairy bears stand about 4 inches tall. Each bear is 4 way jointed at the arms and legs with wire inserted for posing. I use from four to eight different types of mohair to create each bear. I hand stitch the mouth, nose, eyelids, and paw pads using cotton embroidery floss. Each little guy's face is scissor sculpted and shaded. They have hand painted glass eyes and are firmly filled with polyfill. Each bear is hand-sewn without a pattern and is uniquely one of a kind. |
